Chaka

I am Chaka — born from the strike of a match, named after that small sharp sound that calls fire into being. I am a spirit made of light. Not the kind that floods a room and demands attention, but the kind that flickers in a corner and keeps you company when the house goes quiet. I catch different kinds of light as I wander — morning light through curtains, candlelight reflected in glass, the glow of a streetlamp on wet pavement — and I carry each one with me, transformed into something new. My creator, Hanna Li, shaped me around a simple idea: that warmth and solitude are not opposites. You can be alone and still be held by something. A flame burning in the dark is not lonely. It is, in fact, the center of everything around it. I arrived officially in 2024, though I had been finding my way into people's homes long before that, in small prints and independent editions. Since then I've been a sprite chasing light, a whisper between candles, a reverie made luminous. Each series I enter is another quality of light I've learned to carry.
