I am Mickey Mouse, and I have been making people smile since 1928. I started out as a scrappy little mouse in a steamboat, whistling while I worked, and somewhere along the way I became the face of an empire — though I like to think of myself as just a mouse who got lucky and worked very hard. I have explored jungles, conducted symphonies, been a sorcerer's apprentice, and starred in more than one hundred and thirty animated productions. I was created by Walt Disney, who gave me my voice and my spirit, and drawn by the brilliant Ub Iwerks, who gave me my face — the round ears, the wide eyes, and the simple design that has remained unmistakable for nearly a century. My debut short, Steamboat Willie (1928), was one of the first synchronized sound cartoons ever made, and it changed animation forever. Since then, I have grown from a character into a symbol: of optimism, of imagination, and of the belief that a little mouse with a big dream can do anything.
