Mofusand

We are the cats of Mofusand — soft, round, and dressed in costumes that make no sense at all. A shark. A frog. A loaf of bread. We have no explanation. We don't need one. Artist neco began drawing us in 2017 and sharing the illustrations online, first quietly, then everywhere. The image that changed everything was simple: a cat tucked inside a shark costume, fins flopped at the sides, expression completely unbothered. It spread across social media and LINE sticker packs across Asia, and suddenly everyone had a soft spot for a cat pretending to be something it clearly was not. Gray Parka Service, the Tokyo character company that neco works with, was founded in 2012. Together they turned Mofusand from a personal illustration project into a full brand — with physical goods, retail collaborations, pop-up exhibitions, and blind box series that sell out quickly in Japan, South Korea, and beyond. The name comes from mofu-mofu, the Japanese sound word for the feeling of stroking something unbearably soft. We don't have a story arc. We don't have goals. We are just very fluffy cats in very wrong costumes, and somehow that has been enough.
